FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
WHAT
SORT OF RIDERS COME ON SPORT ADVENTURE TRIP?
In
terms of nationality the vast majority come from Britain with the occasional participant
from Holland or France.
In
terms of riding ability the range is quite wide. The trips aren’t
suitable for total beginners but because we use the road book system,
allowing people to ride at their own pace, anyone from those with not
much experience to enduro champions can come along and enjoy the
riding.
What
all the riders who come with us have in common however is a clear
understanding of the notion of trail riding. They know that they are
on holiday, not entered in an illegal race, and are careful to respect
the local population.
I RIDE A 2-STROKE –
WHAT ABOUT REFUELING?
Each day we meet up
with the support truck at least three times and you can refuel then.
WHAT SORT OF BIKE IS
SUITABLE?
The
vast majority of riders come on 4-stroke enduro bikes with KTMs
appearing to be the most popular choice – though we are starting to
see quite a few Japanese 250 4-strokes such as the Honda CRF 250 and
the Yamaha WR250. However we also get
the odd 2-stroke enduro bike, older trail bikes and the
occasional converted crosser. Basically we aren’t prejudice and will
accept any enduro/trail bike providing it is properly silenced,
insured and road registered and fitted with lights
I’VE NEVER USED A
ROAD BOOK – HOW DIFFICULT IS IT?
For the first 30 kms
or so you’re on a steep learning curve. However if you take your
time and don’t blindly follow someone else you’ll be amazed how
quickly you pick it up. Then what you feared might be a chore rapidly
becomes part of the fun.
I DON’T SPEAK A WORD
OF FRENCH - IS THAT A PROBLEM?
In a word - no. We all
speak English and are with you at the hotels, lunch stops, petrol
stations etc. Plus more and more French people are learning English.
Having said that, making even the smallest effort with your schoolboy
French will be richly rewarded. Even a ‘merci’ and ‘au revoir’
will be greatly appreciated by the locals.
NONE OF MY MATES CAN
COME – DO MANY PEOPLE COME ON THEIR OWN?
Yes – regularly. We
all eat together at lunch and dinner and the atmosphere is very
informal so nobody ever feels left out. Plus everybody shares the same
passion – though if anybody feels inclined to talk about something
other than motorcycles they are more than welcome!
